About the Journal

The Swiss Journal of Sociology (SJS) is a multi-lingual Open Access peer review journal, which provides the main platform for presenting and debating sociological research in Switzerland. From its first appearance in 1975, it has reflected key developments in Swiss and international sociology.

The SJS encourages contributions from all areas of sociology. It considers the plurality of theoretical and methodological approaches in empirical research and theory building. Articles published should be of interest to Swiss sociology by engaging with current trends in sociology theoretically and/or methodologically. Submitted contributions will be considered for publication independent of the author’s institutional or national background.

The SJS is the flagship journal of the Swiss Sociological Association (SSA). It is published by Seismo press three times per year, employing a rapid and efficient review process that emphasizes transparency and clarity. 

The SJS receives funding from the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Swiss Journal of Sociology is committed to openness and inclusivity in scholarly publishing without author-facing charges for reading or publishing. We welcome submissions from all authors, regardless of their institutional affiliation, geographical location, or academic status. Submissions only must align with the aims and scope of the journal and meet the required quality standards once the reviewing process is completed.

Swiss Journal of Sociology is owned by Swiss Sociological Association, a public institution/organisation dedicated to advancing research and scholarship. The journal’s ownership and governance structure reflect its mission to support open and accessible academic publishing. We confirm that any commercial service providers involved in our operations only deal with service-related aspects of journal publishing. All content-related aspects of publishing, such as submission, peer review, acceptance, publication frequency, and scope of the journal, are controlled by the editors / the owners of the journal.
