Open Science Policy

Open Data

With the requirements of Open Science, sharing and citing data underlying scientific publication has become one of the major challenges facing the scientific community in recent years. The Swiss Journal of Sociology (SJS) advocates for the accessibility of data and supplementary material necessary to replicate the analyses presented in an article. Consequently, authors are required to include a data availability statement in all accepted manuscripts and reference specifically the corresponding data.

Replication material

The SJS encourages to share the replication material that supports the research. By replication material it is meant the minimal dataset and code that is necessary to interpret, replicate and build upon the findings reported in the article. Replication material can also include software, models, algorithms, protocols, methods and other useful materials related to the article.

Data should be made available in an appropriate repository, preferably the repository offered to the Swiss social science research community: FORS Replication Service. More information about this service here.

Data and materials availability statement

The SJS requires that authors make a statement about the availability of the data when submitting a manuscript. A data availability statement should include information on where data supporting the results reported in the article can be found. If data sharing is not applicable or possible the statement should provide the reasons why this is the case.

Data citation

The SJS requires that authors cite any data on which the conclusions of the paper rely, whenever possible. See the submission guidelines for how to cite data.
