Abstract

Starting from an inventory of conceptions of time autonomy in the literature, an approach is proposed that focuses on social regulations. The challenge to control time leads to an evolution of time autonomy. Originally focused on the shortening of working time since the 19th century, a second autonomy emerges where the duration remains constant but the location of working time is adjusted. This allows arbitrage of working time from day to retirement.
